History of TiM
In November 1972, the Massachusetts Hospital Association (MHA) began an evaluation of the need in Massachusetts hospitals for a shared biomedical engineering function. The fifteen-hospital survey concluded that a void existed in many institutions for a professionally oriented service providing technical assistance in equipment management, patient safety, and clinical engineering consultation.
In 1974, the Association spun out the service and it became Technology in Medicine. The “shared service” experience at MHA was translated into a set of values and performance standards rooted in customer service, and an understanding of the need to balance the needs of all stakeholders. As a result, over the past three decades TiM has grown in its territory, its customer base, and its service skill set to the point where it enjoys a nationwide reputation for leadership in the clinical engineering community.
TiM’s reputation stems in part from its commitment to innovation. TiM pioneered the consolidation of different medical technologies under a single contract; TiM cut new trails in its industry, bringing our customers: access to related engineering services like medical gas system testing and baseline surveys of ethylene oxide and waste anesthetic gas under one roof; the first use of personal computers for generating maintenance schedules and reports; and the first application of quality indicators in analyzing service calls.
In January of 2007, TiM became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Linc Facility Services (LFS). This acquisition has brought TiM a strong organization with significant resources to help drive TiM's objectives, and a parent whose core values mirror TiM's own culture of Unparalleled ExcellenceTM , to fully support TiM's commitment to customer satisfaction. Today, TiM provides contracted services to over 100 hospitals, health care systems, and alternative care facilities in the New England and Mid Atlantic regions.
